2017 was the biggest and most successful year yet for the PHMG Foundation, with staff taking on their toughest challenges to record fundraising results. We’re taking this opportunity to look back at this year of giving – and look ahead to how we’ll achieve even greater things in 2018.
Whether it was scaling mountains, conquering assault courses or running mile after mile, each month saw incredible achievements across all departments. In Chicago, employees took part in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Warrior Dash, while in the UK, staff faced Tough Mudder, the Six Peaks Challenge and the Keswick Triathlon – as well as a host of other activities. And no matter what the event, every participant had the support and sponsorship of their colleagues.
The world faced its fair share of tragedy in 2017, compelling us to support victims in their hour of need. Together, we donated a huge amount of money to disaster funds for the Grenfell Tower fire and for those affected by the Hurricane Harvey. We’re also extremely proud to have raised a staggering sum for the We Love Manchester emergency fund, which has since been used to support survivors, and the families who lost loved ones.
The festive season brought with it even more fundraising opportunities – including our annual Santa Dash and Global Toy Appeal. Joining forces with the Salvation Army, we made sure the neediest children and teenagers in the UK and USA received the gifts they deserved on Christmas Day.
For many charities, it’s not just money that makes a difference, but time – which is why many of our staff also devoted valuable hours to volunteering last year. Members of Client Services gave up their Sunday to work behind the scenes at the Manchester Half Marathon, making sure every runner had the support they needed to reach the finish line. And our Music and Voice team donated their time and talent to the Cyril Flint Befrienders – winning their Accumulator Challenge and receiving a well-deserved award for their efforts back in October.
As a result of all this hard work and generosity, we smashed our £50,000 target to raise £64,899/$92,412. And with the company contribution of a further £50,000/$62,500, we donated a grand total of £114,899/$155,114 to our 18 chosen charities – a figure we’re incredibly proud of.
This year, in order to maximise our charitable contributions, we’ve decided to focus our fundraising efforts on just four worthy causes. As a company, we’ve selected The Salvation Army and the Red Cross for their commitment to supporting people in need across the globe – and the remaining two will be selected by our staff. With another target of £50,000, we’re looking forward to another successful year of fundraising – and making the biggest difference to our chosen charities.
